The Dahisar Bhayandar Elevated Link Road, which is the final stretch of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project, is facing an uncertain future. Despite the project’s importance, there are no signs that construction will begin soon.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) was initially expected to finance the project. But recently, it informed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) that it would not be able to fund the project. This has led to delays and may even result in a complete halt.

The elevated road will connect Bhayandar (West) Subhash Chandra Bose Garden with Dahisar (West) Kandarpada Link Road. It is of great importance to the public since it is a part of the Mumbai Coastal Road. It is expected to alleviate traffic for Dahisar residents and ease concerns about tolls at the Dahisar toll plaza.

In a recent communication to the BMC, the MMRDA stated that it could not afford the project’s expenses. The BMC was relying on the MMRDA for the project’s financial needs. However, the recent response from MMRDA makes it challenging to complete the road. Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is tasked with managing the project’s construction.

L&T is also responsible for obtaining the necessary approvals and clearances. Another issue is that the project’s progress is hampered by the pending clearance from the Environment Department.

The total estimated cost of the project is INR 4,027 crore, with the BMC assuming the financial responsibility. The project is expected to be completed in 42 months. Pratap Sarnaik, a Shiv Sena MLA, announced that the bidding process has ended and that the BMC will bear the full cost of the project, which is now part of the future budget.
