At least seven people were killed and eight others were left injured on Tuesday morning after a major fire broke out at Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) plant in Navi Mumbai.
Of the seven deceased, three Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel were present at the spot for inspection when an explosion took place. ONGC informed that the gas has been diverted at Hazira plant in Surat while the injured have been rushed to the hospital.
The fire broke out at 7:20 in the morning and the cause for the same in still unknown. The fire was followed by an explosion in the pipeline which is suspected as the reason behind fatalities.
ONGC issued a statement stating,
A fire broke out in storm water drainage early morning 2day in Uran oil & gas processing plant.ONGC fire services & crisis managemnt team immediately pressed in2 action. Fire is being contained. No impact on Oil processing.Gas diverted to Hazira Plant. Situation is being assessed

Uran MLA Manohar Bhoir informed that four people have died in the incident, however, the fire is completely under control now.
