A major fire broke out around 2:30 am on Sunday at a warehouse located within the Gurudwara premises at CST Road, Kapadia Nagar in Kurla (West). The warehouse, covering approximately 3,000 sq ft, stored automobile spare parts, tyres, electrical conduits, equipment, and scrap materials. The fire quickly spread, engulfing around 15 to 20 material piles and reducing them to ashes.
Despite efforts to control the blaze overnight, it reignited in the morning and spread to nearby slum areas, destroying around 20 houses. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, though the incident caused significant financial loss.
Upon being alerted, local police and fire brigade teams responded swiftly. Firefighters declared it a Level-1 fire at 2:43 am and escalated it to Level-2 at 2:57 am due to its intensity. Using four fire engines and ten jumbo water tankers, the blaze was brought under control within five hours and fully extinguished by 7:24 am.
Barn and warehouse owners arrived at the scene, but by then the damage had already been done. A large crowd of onlookers had gathered during the incident.
Police and fire officials are currently investigating the exact cause of the fire. Notably, this area in Kurla is known to be prone to frequent fire incidents.
