Henceforth, if anyone is caught flouting noise pollution norms in Mumbai, he/she will attract a fine or a jail term. The state government has shortlisted a total of 110 areas in Mumbai as silent zones that cover all government and private hospitals, nursing homes, schools, colleges, and courts as well.

If anyone is caught flouting noise pollution norms then it would attract a fine worth ₹1 lakh and a jail term of five years.

In wake of the upcoming festival season, the state government has urged citizens to take an initiative and register complaints in police stations if they come across any instances of violation of noise pollution norms in silent zones.

The government stated that the noise level in these silent zones during the daytime cannot exceed 50 decibel and 40 decibel during the night.

For industrial areas, 75 decibel noise level is permissible during the day and 70 decibel at night. Likewise in commercial areas, 65 decibel noise level is permissible during the day and 55 decibel at night. In residential areas, it is 55 decibel during the day and 45 decibel at night.
