Former Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, Chandrashekhar Dharmadhikari, passed away on Thursday morning in Nagpur. The final rites of the former chief justice will be held at Ambazari Ghat. 91-year-old Chandrashekhar Dharmadhikari was being treated at a private hospital.  

Chandrashekhar Shankar Dharmadhikari was born on November 20, 1927. Born in Madhya Pradesh’s Raipur, Dharmadhikari got his primary education at a Municipality school in Nagpur. The former Bombay HC chief justice also participated in freedom struggle. Dharmadhikari was honoured with ‘Padma Bhushan’ award in 2003 for his outstanding work.

Dharmadhikari served as a judge for more than 17 years until his retirement and was also appointed as Chief Justice. During his time as a judge, Dharmadhikari passed verdicts on several important issues catering to the rights of women, Adivasis, children, and mentally challenged people. The former justice was also a renowned writer. He had written several books in Hindi, Marathi, and Gujarati.
