On Friday, several photos of French President Macron were found to be pasted over a road at Muhammad Ali Road in South Mumbai amidst the extremism row.

Earlier on Thursday, a Tunisian man armed with a knife and allegedly carrying a copy of the Quran attacked worshippers in a French church in the in Mediterranean city of Nice further killing three people. This immediately prompted the government to raise its security alert to the maximum level. This happens to be the third attack in less than two months that the authorities of France have attributed to extremists from the Muslim community. This has given birth to widespread rage and controversy in not only France but across the world.

However, after the photos of French President Macron plastered over the roads in Mumbai surfaced on the internet, several BJP leaders took to Twitter to ask questions pertaining to why the French President was being insulted in such a manner in the city.

Earlier in October, after the French President had criticized Islam post the attacks, citizens in multiple Muslim countries had called on the world to boycott French products, which has been trending on social media across Qatar, Egypt, Kuwait, Pakistan, Jordan, Algeria, Saudi Arabia and Turkey.
