After keeping the rates unchanged for two days, the Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have once again increased the prices of petrol and diesel on Friday, June 4.

The petrol prices have gone up by 27 paise per litre and diesel by 28 paise. With this, in Mumbai, the rate of petrol has almost touched the INR 101 mark.

Meanwhile, Mumbai has the highest-selling rates for petrol and diesel among major cities at INR 100.98 per litre and INR 92.99 per litre, respectively. In addition, most of the districts in Maharashtra has also crossed the INR 100 mark.

In the national capital, Delhi, a litre of petrol will cost INR 94.76 and a litre of diesel will cost INR 85.66. Petrol and diesel prices in Chennai stood at INR 96.23 and INR 90.38 per litre respectively. In Kolkata, prices remained at INR 94.76 for petrol and INR 88.51 a litre for diesel.

This is the 18th hike since May and with the increase in prices during this period, petrol price has gotten costlier by INR 4.36 per litre and diesel by INR 4.93 a litre.  

Moreover, a string of 43 hikes this year as compared to just four cuts has seen prices of petrol and diesel break all records in India this year. Petrol prices have now broken the psychological INR 100 per litre mark in as many as 135 districts in the country, including all the cities in states like Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.

According to reports, in all, retail prices of petrol have gone up by INR 10.78 per litre in this year so far, while diesel prices are up by INR 11.51 per litre.
