After missing several deadlines, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is finally set to launch the pumping station in Santacruz before the monsoon season starts in Mumbai. With the waterlogging problem in the city every monsoon, the pumping station will help to get rid of the same. 

The Gazdhar Bandh Pumping station has the capacity to direct 36,000 litres of water into the sea in one second. The officials informed that till May 15 the pumping station will be launched. Earlier, the BMC missed the January’s deadline for the same. 

Nearly 65 per cent of the work including the installation of the pump and other technical operations have been completed. During monsoon season, people in Santacruz, Bandra, Khar, Juhu, and other areas face difficulties and with the installation of this pumping station the problems of waterlogging may be resolved to an extent.

Earlier in February, the civic body blacklisted a contractor who failed to complete the work for the pumping station while the contract was given in the year 2014.
