According to the latest reports, Maharashtra's leading dairy cooperative, Gokul has increased the prices of its full cream milk by INR 2 per litre in all centres. These include Mumbai and Pune from August 1. With this rise in price, the revised rate in Mumbai will be INR 66 per litre which is up from INR 64.

Based on accounts, this is the company's third increase in 15 months. A senior officer of the Kolhapur Zill Sahakari Dudh Utpadak Sangh that owns Gokul was quoted in a narrative by the Times of India elaborating on how the prices of other varieties such as cow milk, standardized milk and toned milk are unchanged.

The officer added that they have increased the purchase price that they pay to milk farmers by INR 2 per litre and thus have relayed this rise to the customers.

Narratives suggest that the purchase price of cow milk will increase by INR 1 per litre. The officer believes that MRP revision can also be attributed to the increasing cost of raw materials used to manufacture cattle feed.

On the other hand, in light of the Union's imposition of 5 per cent GST on milk products such as curd, lassi and buttermilk, Gokul has not increased the MRP. However, claims are being made that a hike is imminent.

The new rates are slated to be implemented Monday, August 1, onwards.
