A few days back, Govandi resident Sharda Ghodeswar died when a tree fell on her while waiting at a bus stop in Chembur. She is survived by her 65-year-old mother and three children.

She was the sole bread earner who used to work as a maid and was looking after her family. After her death, her family had to take a loan of ₹15,000 to carry out funeral rites. When this news reached Govandi police station, all police officers, of all ranks, came together and gathered a sum of ₹17,000 and gave it to the bereaving family on Friday.

Upon receiving the money, deceased Sharda’s mother Kachrabai could not control her tears and she thanked the police officers for their generous help.

On December 7, Sharda was waiting for a bus stop near Chembur’s Diamond Garden when a tree fell on her killing her on the spot.
