Maharashtra: Government will decide to lift remaining COVID-19 restrictions after Oct 8

Ajit Pawar, Deputy Chief Minister, said they would review the situation after the first week of October, following which they would decide on lifting the remaining restrictions in the state.

Maharashtra has seen a decline in COVID-19 cases, and the state government is considering lifting the remaining restrictions. They will review the situation after the first week of October.

Ajit Pawar, Deputy Chief Minister, on Tuesday, September 28, said that after October 8, the authorities will meet, following which they will lift the restrictions in the state if the cases continue to decline.

In August, the state had reported 4,522 fatalities due to Covid-19. There was a fatality drop in September to  1,754. The has been a decline of 46.64% of COVID-19 cases in September, as reported by Hindustan Times.

The situation is gradually getting better in the state, and the government is looking at unlocking all the remaining restrictions, said Ajit Pawar while addressing the media on Thursday, September 30.

He further said that after Oct 8, they would hold a meeting and discuss if they could reopen other activities. He said they are taking stock of the situation and taking the necessary steps to unlock the restrictions.

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, on Saturday, September 25, had announced that all cinemas across the state would be allowed to reopen from October 22, 2021. 

Pawar has, however, said that even though the state is experiencing a fewer number of cases, citizens must follow other rules and ensure wearing masks in public places.
