The Maharashtra Government has announced the setting up of a women entrepreneurship cell on Monday. This cell will look to increase the number of women entrepreneurs in startups and other entrepreneurship-related sectors. The move was confirmed by State Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Minister, Nawab Malik

This women entrepreneurship cell will be formed under the Maharashtra State Innovation Society which is a nodal agency established to enhance the innovation-driven entrepreneurship ecosystem in Maharashtra. This agency also bears the responsibility of providing financial assistance to startups by reimbursing costs incurred on filing patents and lab-tests required for products.

There will now be a “Girl-Student Entrepreneurship Clubs” at colleges and universities with suitable training provided to students who are interested in entrepreneurship. Further, it will also create incubators for female entrepreneurs while organizing accelerator programs to expand existing incubators.

Malik also said that financial assistance will be provided to startups established by female entrepreneurs. This is the first of many steps taken by state governments across the country to enhance female engagement in sectors largely considered to be male-dominated.
