On the death anniversary of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar on December 6, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has undertaken the decision to allow a live broadcast as well as permit online access to Chaityabhoomi, stated reports.

Whilst the civic authority had commenced the arrangements for the Mahaparinirvan Din, fear of the new COVID-19 variant, Omicron, propelled the Maharashtra government to issue a circular highlighting that no gatherings be conducted.

Yearly, lakhs of individuals gather at Shivaji Park to commemorate the death anniversary of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. However, owing to the coronavirus pandemic and the possibility of a second wave, the civic authority didn’t permit individuals to visit the spot last year.

According to reports, an official from the BMC elaborated on how the state government has proclaimed a circular, disallowing all programs across Maharashtra. This naturally applies to Mumbai too. Considering this, the BMC has decided to accord online access, enabling people to offer their tributes to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar without having to visit the Chaityabhoomi.

Based on accounts, Municipal Commissioner, Iqbal Singh Chahal has also requested people to offer their respects from home. Additionally, it has been reported that no stalls are to be set up at Chaityabhoomi and the Shivaji Park area of Dadar.

Apart from this, it has also been made mandatory that the leaders, dignitaries who come to pay homage to the memorial be fully vaccinated. If a vaccination certificate isn’t shown, entry to the premises will be denied.

Additionally, on Thursday, December 2, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar also requested the citizens of Mumbai to seek virtual darshan.
