H1N1 is an airborne pandemic disease with symptoms that include fever, cough, sore throat, chills, weakness and body aches.

In the month of March, two deaths in the city were reported due to H1N1. A 30-year-old woman from Agripada and 65-year-old woman from Mazgaon died due to the illness. So far this year, 1,346 positive H1N1 cases and 120 deaths have been recorded in the state. In Mumbai, 134 cases have been registered out of which, 40 were registered in February, 80 in March and 14 this month.

A 65-year-old victim had been suffering from diabetes and was admitted to the hospital for one week, whereas, a 30-year old woman was admitted to Nair Hospital on March 5 and died on March 7.

In Maharashtra, at least 8.86 lakh people have been screened for H1N1 virus from January to April 21. Of them, 15,524 patients suspected to have fever were administered the Oseltamivir drug as a precaution.
