According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), rainfall has resumed in Mumbai. Moreover, the winds are expected to reach 40 to 50 kmph along the coast of northern Maharashtra between August 2 and 5.

In addition, the wind speed will reach 60 km per hour. The coasts of Goa and Gujarat are also expected to experience strong winds, with waves of up to 4 meters on the coasts of Gujarat, Maharashtra and Goa. The IMD has further predicted torrential downpours in sparsely populated coastal districts of Maharashtra during the same period.

Meanwhile, fishermen are urged not to venture into the sea for fishing during this period. On August 2, moderate to light rains will resume in some parts of Maharashtra. On August 3, heavy rains will fall in Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts.

On the other hand, Mumbai recorded a total of 1,125.9 mm rain in the past month alone. According to reports, this July marks the fourth consecutive year in which monthly rains have crossed the 1,000 mm mark, as opposed to the monthly normal of 827mm, as per the IMD.

Furthermore, the rainfall in July across the city this year was 37 per cent in excess of the monthly normal or long-period average, as per data from the IMD’s monitoring station in Santacruz.
