Waterlogging reported in several parts of Mumbai due to heavy rainfall

Heavy rainfall lashed the city of Mumbai and several nearby areas in the eastern suburbs, Thane and Palghar, on Monday evening. As per reports, the rainfall was expected to intensify from Tuesday morning, and the city was given an alert until August 6, 2020. Several areas in Mumbai, especially the low-lying regions observed waterlogging and this has once again caused a big loss to the citizens. 

Reports released by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) shows that the city will experience torrential rains, and as per forecast, Mumbai also had a high tide on Tuesday, August 4, 2020, at 12:47 pm, where the tides could be up to 4.45 meters. Observing this, the Brihnamumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had appealed to the citizens to not leave their houses unless there is an urgent need.

Skymet also released a forecast report which said, "Heavy to very heavy rains are going on over Mumbai and suburbs for the last 24 hours. During the last 24 hours, Santacruz recorded 269 mm and Colaba 252 mm of rain. A cyclonic circulation is over the Gujarat region and a low-pressure area has formed over the North Bay of Bengal.

The east-west shear zone is also running along latitude 18 degrees north. These weather parameters will enhance the rain activities all along the west coast of the country, from coastal Karnataka to the south coast of Gujarat. There will be heavy to very heavy rain and shower activities over Mumbai and adjoining areas of Palghar, Dahanu, Raigarh, Thane, and Kalyan until August 5. Rain activities will start reducing from August 6th. Moderate showers with isolated intense spells to continue over Mumbai and suburbs."
