The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), on Thursday, January 28, 2021, began the heritage walks of the iconic BMC headquarters. Under this development, Mumbaikars and tourists will get an opportunity to visit the structure and learn about the heritage of the building.

As per reports, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar were the first to attend this Heritage Walk. This unique initiative was launched by CM, who was also accompanied with Congress Mumbai president Bhai Jagtap, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar, standing committee president Yashwant Jadhav and Shiv Sena, Congress and NCP corporators among others.

BMC officials have planned the tour of the Gothic style building whereby tourists will be able to know about the history of the corporation hall. This four-storey building is made of stone and has been recognised as a World Heritage Site.

Next to this structure is a six-storey extended building of the municipality, which holds the offices of the Municipal Commissioner, Mayor, four additional commissioners, group leaders, opposition leaders, chairpersons of various committees and various departments.

Besides this, the main attraction of this building is the Municipal Hall. Statues of various great personalities have been placed in the corporation hall, and tourists will be able to enjoy these offerings.

The tours will be hosted every weekend - Saturday, Sunday - and on holidays. To make this accessible, the BMC has arranged for a guide who will help the tourists with the history of this building.
