In a major concern ahead of the festivities, it has come to light that the Mumbai police on Thursday, August 18, announced that security has been tightened in Mumbai.

This move came after three AK 47 rifles, explosives and bullets were seized from the boat near Harihareshwar shore in Raigad district. The vessel is a security boat of Oman. Following which, the district was put on high alert. Besides, nakabandi has been imposed at prima locations.

“An unidentified boat found at Harihareshwar Beach and a lifeboat found at Bharadkhol in Raigad district. Nobody is present on either of them. Coast Guard and Maharashtra Maritime Board have been informed of the same,” local police was quoted as saying by ANI.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis  clarified that the boat belongs to an Australian citizen. Boat’s engine broke out in the sea, people were rescued by a Korean boat. It has now reached Harihareshwar beach. Keeping in mind the coming festive season, police & administration have been instructed to be prepared.

He further exclaimed, they are constantly in touch with the Indian coast guard regarding the issue. Moreover, police are investigating the matter, while central agencies have been informed. The agencies are also monitoring the investigation.

"As per primary info, some boats containing weapons & documents found in Harihareshwar & Bharadkhol of Shrivardhan in Raigad. Local Police is probing, I've demanded CM-Dy CM to urgently appoint special team of ATS or State Agency," said Aditi Tatkare, Shrivardhan (Raigad) MLA.

Some locals spotted the boat, having no crew member, in Shrivardhan area, located more than 190 km from Mumbai, and alerted security agencies.

According to officials, the crew members of this boat had been rescued in June this year near the Oman coast. The police said the boat came floating to the Raigad coast. Officials are speaking to locals and fishermen to know more about the abandoned boat. A team of Maharashtra ATS has also been rushed to the spot.
