One person was killed and two others were injured after a BEST bus crashed into a road divider near Mankhurd on Monday morning, disrupting traffic on the northbound carriageway of the Sion–Panvel Highway towards Vashi.

The deceased was identified as Bhaskar Raosaheb Pande (65), who was standing on the road divider when the bus rammed into it. The injured bus conductor Vaibhav Waghmare (41) and driver Shriram Sharma (51) were admitted to Rajawadi Hospital and are currently in stable condition.

The impact left the bus lodged against the central divider, partially blocking the northbound carriageway and triggering heavy traffic congestion during the morning peak hours. Visuals from the scene showed the damaged bus obstructing an entire lane.

Traffic police and civic officials reached the accident site soon after the crash and began efforts to remove the stranded bus and restore normal traffic movement.

In an update issued around 9:00 a.m. on July 20, the Mumbai Traffic Police said traffic beneath Mankhurd Metro Station on the northbound carriageway remained slow because of the accident. Motorists were advised to expect delays and use alternate routes wherever possible.

The cause of the accident was not immediately known, and further investigation is underway.
