In the summer, many people eat ice-made items to get relief from the heat. But you will be surprised to know that the ice can be a threat to your health. Due to unhygienic eating habits, you may get affected with stomach related diseases which include diarrhoea and abdominal pain.

BMC has taken the stern step to curb the usage of ice made from dirty water. In April 2017, M. East BMC office took action and seized 13,700kgs of bad ice while taking action on it. In the M/East department, in the month of April, 97 people were ill after consuming adulterated ice.


Areas that fall in In the M East Zone are Govandi, Deonar, Mankhurd, Turbhe, Shivajinagar, Bharatnagar, Ganeshnagar, Sahyadrinagar, Ayodhya Nagar, Gautam Nagar and Vishnunagar.

How does the ice get contaminated-

Unused water for many days

There is no proper maintenance of ice

Rusted moulds

Illness caused due to consumption of contaminated ice-

Stomachache

Indigestion

Liver Diseases

Viral fever

Anemia

Ulcer


Remedies-

Avoid the use of cold water immediately after coming from the sun

Instruct the shopkeeper to not mix colour with juice while drinking juice

Do not consume raw ice, lassi, sugarcane juice
