The state government of Maharashtra recently issued a directive to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to come up with ideas that attract tourists to visit the iconic buildings in the city. Following the same, the concerned department at the BMC have drafted a plan to ensure more tourists footfall is seen at these identified buildings in Mumbai.

Reports state that the official information regarding the same has not been announced yet. However, the proposal has been prepared and is yet to be discussed with the government before It is made public. Furthermore, Officials from the civic body are currently working on improving and refining the same and that the official announcements will follow.

The directives were issued on September 28, 2022, and Municipal Commissioner IS Chahal has given clear instructions to conduct zonal level meetings regularly along with the sub-committees to be developed each zone. Moreover, officials will have to ensure and encourage participation in the project. Architects and designers have been asked to come forward, give advice along with suggestions to overcome difficulties faced during the project.

Officials also informed the discussions are being held among the stakeholders to ensure that a strong plan is made for the same. Talking about the objective, he said that the city of Mumbai attracts tourists just like all other international cities, and similar to the iconic locations in Dubai, Mumbai will also attract tourists at the buildings thereby generate good revenue. The department has been asked to focus and ensure that iconic buildings are made eye-catching.
