Heatwave in Maharashtra: IMD issues alert for April 5-6

Wardha reported highest maximum temperature, followed by Brahmpuri, Akola, etc., the weather department said on Thursday, April 4.

Amid soaring temperatures, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heatwave in the parts of Maharashtra including Yavatmal, Chandrapur, Wardha on April 5 and 6.

It is pertinent to note that several districts in Madhya Maharashtra and Vidarbha are witnessing extreme temperatures since March.

As per IMD, the weather remained dry in the districts of Vidarbha in Maharashtra during last 24 hours. The maximum temperature was hovering around 39-42 degrees Celsius, which is above the normal.

On April 4, Wardha reported highest maximum temperature at 42.5 degrees Celsius (+2.3), followed by Brahmpuri 42.3 (+2.8), Akola 42.2 (+2.2). Meanwhile, Solapur witnessed a maximum temperature of 42.2 degrees Celsius on April 3.

While issuing an alert, the IMD said, on April 5, the heat wave condition is likely to occur in the isolated pockets of Yavatmal and Chandrapur. Whereas, for April 6 alert, the IMD said, the heat wave condition is likely to occur in the isolated pockets of Yavatmal and Akola.

Besides, warm night condition is likely to occur in the isolated pockets of Wardha on both the days.

Moreover, IMD's regional meteorological centre in Mumbai recorded maximum temperature of 32.7 and 33.2 degrees Celsius at Colaba and Santacruz observatory respectively. The weather department has predicted warmer days for the city; however, no warning has been issued for heatwave-like conditions for Mumbai.
