Vijay Wadettiwar, the State’s Disaster Management Relief and Rehabilitation Minister, recently said that approximately 50 people can be allowed to attend a wedding in Maharashtra now. He further added that all the attendees have to however follow social distancing protocols.
Several kinds of exemptions are being given as a part of Unlock 1.0 with the exemption to weddings coming as a first in the state. With the outbreak of the coronavirus, Wadettiwar has said that keeping in mind the pandemic, only 50 people have been allowed for the ceremony to avoid larger crowds.
As of Tuesday, June 23, Maharashtra has reported 248 deaths due to the coronavirus. Out of the 248 deaths, 75 occurred in the last 48 hours, and rest 173 are from the previous period, the state health department said. The death toll in the state stands at 6531.
The state of Maharashtra has reported 3,214 new COVID-19 cases and 1925 recoveries in the last 24 hours. The total number of cases stands at 1,39,010 while that of recoveries is 69,631. As of June 23, there are 62,833 active cases in the state.
According to the state health department, the recovery rate in Maharashtra is 50.09 per cent while the case fatality rate is 4.69 per cent. Currently, 6,05,141 people are under home quarantine and 26,572 people in institutional quarantine.
Furthermore, out of 8,02,775 laboratory samples, 1,39,010 have been tested positive which is 17.31 per cent for the coronavirus until June 23. A total of 103 laboratories are functioning in order for COVID-19 diagnosis in Maharashtra at the moment. Currently, there are 60 government ones and 43 private ones. State Health Minister Rajesh Tope had earlier said that the count of tests per million in the state has now doubled.
With the new exemptions which are a part of the Unlock 1.0 what remains to be seen is how the state manages to deal with the surge in the number of cases of COVID-19.
