Maharashtra touches 37,136 COVID-19 cases, 1,202 discharged in one day: Rajesh Tope

The state Public Health Minister further informed that a total of 9,639 patients are cured and discharged from the hospitals in Maharashtra. However, 76 people have also died in the state, Tope said.

Maharashtra Public Health Minister Rajesh Tope informed that nearly 2,100 fresh coronavirus cases were reported on Tuesday, taking the number of COVID-19 cases in the state to 37,136. Meanwhile, during the day, Tope said that a record 1,202 COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospitals in the state after recovery. 

“The COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra increased by 2,127 on Tuesday taking the number in the state to 37,136. Also, a record 1,202 patients were discharged,” Rajesh Tope tweeted on Tuesday. 

The state Public Health Minister further informed that a total of 9,639 patients are cured and discharged from the hospitals in Maharashtra. However, 76 people have also died in the state, Tope said. As of May 20 morning, the death toll in the state has increased to 1,325. 

During his address via social media, Rajesh Tope also said that the doubling rate in Maharashtra has increased as well. The doubling rate is the number of days during which cases double. The doubling rate was three days earlier but now it is 14 days, he added. 

Moreover, Tope said that the health department in Maharashtra has been asked to fill the vacant post by initiating recruitment process. The state Health Minister stated that technology will be used to conduct the interview and physical distancing will be practised. 

Maharashtra is carrying out 15,000 coronavirus tests every day which is the highest in the country, the minister said. 

On Monday, Rajesh Tope interacted with Kerala Health Minister KK Shailaja who has been praised for her contribution in flattening the curve in Kerala. Tope sought to understand the Kerala model of combating with the coronavirus pandemic. Tope shared that the major challenge is to ensure social distancing in places like Dharavi.
