Through all the regional transport offices of the state, a campaign was launched to check private contracted passenger buses and other crimes charging more than the fare fixed by the state government. In this campaign, 14,161 private buses were inspected. Out of them, 4,277 private buses were found violating various offences. According to a press release issued by former Mumbai Regional Transport Officer Vinay Ahire, the report has been issued for his inspection.


The state government, through a government decision dated April 27, 2018, has fixed the maximum fare of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation, taking into account the existing fare for stage transport in that category, that private contract licence vehicle shall not exceed 50 per cent of the per kilometre fare of the full bus for that category.

All the Regional Transport Offices were instructed to run a special campaign from May 16 to June 30, 2023, to curb other crimes by private contracted passenger buses for charging more fare than prescribed by the government.


In this campaign, while inspecting the bus, driving without licence or violating licence conditions, stage transport, illegal transportation of goods in passenger bus, validity certificate not valid, reflectors, indicators, tail lights, wipers in vehicles Illegal modification etc., passenger traffic exceeding capacity, ensuring payment of motor vehicle tax, charging excess fare, functioning of fire fighting system, emergency exit doors and other doors were checked.
