Over the years, Japanese Pod hotels have gained popularity throughout the world, because of the unique model and facilities the hotels offer. Owing to their prevalence, IRCTC had announced last year that they would be building a pod hotel in Mumbai to aid passengers travelling in long-distance trains.
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) recently announced that the first pod hotel at a railway station is expected to be inaugurated at Mumbai Central station by March 2020. The pod hotel will consist of various facilities to ensure that the passengers do not have to opt for expensive private hotels.

The tender for the hotel will soon been announced and the process to invite bids is in the final phase. IRCTC stated that the tender will be opened for interested parties on December 18 and the winning bidder will have two-three months to complete the construction work for the pod hotel. Once the construction is completed, passengers will be able to rent a pod for 12 hours.
As per the plan, IRCTC will construct around 25 air-conditioned capsules in the hotel which will also boast of changing rooms, washrooms, common areas and a cafeteria, all spread over 4,000 sqft.
Other amenities in the hotel will include televisions, personal lockers, power sockets, USB ports, Wi-Fi and a lot more.
