On late Saturday night, inhabitants from residential structures near Kasturba Hospital were permitted to go back home. This occurred after the fire brigade and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited’s team concluded the decanting of an LPG tank that had leaked.

According to reports, officials from the fire brigade have given the hospital the green signal to inhabit the building again after it was vacated due to the gas leak.

58 patients of which 28 were infected with coronavirus were moved from building number 148 that is on the hospital grounds to a different one on Saturday after a gas leakage occurred from an LPG storage tank in the hospital. Owing to this, even those living nearby were asked to move to ensure that they weren’t at risk.

On Sunday, officials from the Mumbai Fire Brigade stated that the situation was now normal, but as a preventive measure, a fire engine, water tanker, and Hazmat are kept on hold in the hospital premises.

Some reports also elucidate that officials from the BMC highlighted that the hospital building was evacuated after the leakage was reported on Sunday. The official also said that from Monday onwards the RT-PCR test lab will be operational since it didn’t sustain any repercussions of the leakage. Additionally, the storage LPG tank that leaked is also ready to be utilized.

Based on some reports, Hemant Parab Chief Fire Officer mentioned that specialists from HPCL assisted in decanting the leaking storage tank. Post this, a leakage detector machine was put to use to see to it that there wasn’t any leakage in the surroundings. By late Saturday evening, the decanting process was finished.

Parab in his conversation with The Indian Express stated that there was 4 metric tonne gas in the LPG tank when the leakage commenced. HPCL’s vehicle came for decanting which is a specialized task as there exists a risk of accident during gas transfer. He also stated that the situation is under control and residents living nearby are permitted to return home. Reports state that the LPG storage tank could hold 10 metric tonnes.

He also stated that the hospital administration has been informed that they can move the patients back since a disaster has been deflected and there isn’t any risk anymore, cite reports.
