Mumbaikars and activists have been protesting to save Aarey after Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) Tree Authority gave nod to cut 2,700 trees in Aarey colony to construct a car shed for the Metro 3 (Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ) project. Several celebrities have also joined the “Aarey Bachao (Save Aarey)” movement.

Moreover, Yuva Sena chief and Uddhav Thackeray's son - Aditya Thackeray - has also openly come out in protest against the potential felling of trees in Aarey.

Similarly, on Wednesday, students of KES college (Kandivali West) joined the movement while expressing disappointment against the Tree Authority’s decision. More than 20 NSS students also participated in the protest at Kandivali station.

The cutting of trees in Aarey will have a huge impact on the environment, we have organised this protest to create awareness among the people. We are trying to tell people that cutting of trees will affect the commoners as well as flora & fauna,” NSS leader Surya Nair.
