In a recent press conference that was held by Yuva Sena chief Aditya Thackeray, he expressed his dismay over the proposal passed by BMC's Tree Authority to cut down 27,000 trees for the construction of a car shed for the Metro 3 project. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) chief Praveen Pardeshi held a press conference on Monday morning, September 9 to defend the cutting of 27,000 trees in Aarey. 

Aditya Thackeray stated that Aarey is the green lungs of the city and home to various rare species of flora & fauna and he won't tolerate if Aarey is touched. Opposing the construction of Metro cra shed, Thackeray said that the Mithi river has overflown thrice this year and one should take this as a serious warning.

According to Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL), without the car shed, the Metro project will suffer and Thackeray responds to the same stating that it comes across as a scam and questioned the credibility of the consultants who couldn't find an alternative location to Aarey. 

On Monday, BMC chief Praveen Pardeshi had claimed that the tree cover in Mumbai is higher than cities like New York and London. He even ignored the suggestions of activists who said that Kanjurmarg could be an alternative. Aditya Thackeray stated that BMC should appoint an officer who takes into consideration the opinions of Mumbaikars. Notably, Raj Thackeray's son Amit Thackeray has also extended his support to the 'Aarey Bachao' movement
