After the Tree Authority allowed cutting 2,700 trees in Aarey for Metro 3 car shed project, the opposition against the decision has been visible with people and celebrities joining the protest while insisting on saving Aarey forest. Along with the ruling party, Shiv Sena has also joined the opposition on this issue.

Amit Thackeray, son of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray, also extended his support to the “Aarey Bachao” movement carried out by activist and people who are demanding Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) Tree Authority to withdraw their decision to cut several trees in Aarey.

In a video on his Facebook page, Amit Thackeray said that over 82,000 people have already signed a memorandum while opposing the felling of trees in Aarey.

After several complaints, if the Tree Authority has taken this decision, it will raise doubts. I am not against development. However, the development shouldn’t be at the cost of the environment. The recent fire in the Amazon jungle has already worried the world and it is unfortunate that we are destroying Mumbai’s breath (Aarey),” said Thackeray.
