On Wednesday night, a fire broke out at Maimoon Manzil building at Marol where a family of four burnt to death while five people got injured. The fire broke out on the third and fourth floor. Hazifa Kothari (21) and Hussain Kothari (26) were the ones who got injured.
Around 12:45 am in the night, a fire broke out at Maimoon Manzil’s third and fourth floor. The Kapasi family who lived on the third floor died because they opened the door, cited the residents Sandeep Yenge and John Pinto.
When the fire started spreading, Abbas Kapasi, who survived the fire, came out of the house and started knocking on the neighbour’s door. Meanwhile, their main door got locked which obstructed him from entering his flat and his family members who could not come out and they sustained 100 per cent injuries.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Navinchandra Reddy confirmed that the four members of the Kapasi family locked out and died in the fire. In total, five were injured, one is in the ICU and one has been discharged.
Where one family died, Kothari family who resided on the fourth floor escaped with slight injuries. They are now recuperating at Holy Spirit Hospital.
We were sleeping and suddenly a fire broke out. I was sleeping near the door. We heard people telling us about the fire but we did not open the door. Because of which our family was saved. The fire engine came after 75 minutes,” Hazifa Kothari.
I was studying and my parents were sleeping. All of a sudden, we heard a loud bang. We tried coming out but the fire had reached my brother’s room so we did not come out,” Hussain Kothari.
