On Monday, seven labourers fell down from an old scaffolding at Runwal Garden City at Balkum Pada in Thane. One fire engine and a rescue vehicle rushed to the spot immediately and the injured labourers were rushed to Thane Civil Hospital with injuries. Of seven labourers, two have been reported critical and are admitted to the ICU, said one of the fire brigade officials.
According to Regional Disaster Management Cell, the incident took place around 11:00 am. The injured have been identified as Mohammed Rakhibulah Sheikh (30), Mohammad Royal Sheikh (21), Jamal Sheikh (50), Hasan Ali (24), Ektiyar Yusuf Mohammad (20), Dulal Singh (35), and Maniruddin Sheikh (27).
Santosh Kadam, Thane's Regional Disaster Management Cell’s Chief said that a group of workers, engaged by a contractor, were busy painting the walls of the multi-storey residential building when the scaffolding caved in at about 11:00 am, causing all of them to fall down.
For now, the rescue operations and police investigation are underway.
