Around five lakh beneficiaries of Chief Minister Ladki Bahin Yojana have been declared as ineligible by the Maharashtra government.
Meanwhile, Women and Child Development minister Aditi Tatkare has clarified that the money which has already been deposited into the bank accounts over the last six months will not be taken back from them, as per the report by The Indian Express. Over INR 450 crore were deposited into the accounts of these very five lakh women between July 2024 and December 2024.

The Ladki Bahin scheme provides INR 1,500 per month to women up to the age of 65, whose annual family income is below INR 2.5 lakh. To qualify, beneficiaries must not have a government employee in their family, must not own a four-wheeler, and should not be receiving monthly aid from any other government scheme. As per government data, the scheme currently benefits 2.46 crore women.
The Mahayuti government's return to power with a massive majority in the November 2024 Assembly elections came after the announcement of several populist schemes. However, these initiatives faced criticism as the state's fiscal deficit surged to Rs 2 lakh crore.
