If reports are to be believed this was the second fire in the building in just over six months. Earlier, in September 2021, a 40-year-old woman died after a fire broke out on the 6th floor of the same building. The deceased was identified as Hema Jagwani, who was stranded on the top floor, drew her last breath before the fire brigade team could pull her out from the staircase. However, 49 other residents were rescued, said officials.

Meanwhile, a day earlier, a small fire broke out on the second floor of a building in Mumbai's Agripada area. The incident took place in the wee hours of Wednesday, April 20, around 3 am.

Lately, there has been a considerable rise in the number of fire mishaps reported across the city. It has been observed that these accidents are majorly identified in the residential buildings. This continues to occur despite Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporations (BMC)'s various notices to buildings to take preventive measure for fire safety. They have also directed officials to conduct audits to identify violations of fire safety measures in the buildings and fix lapses.

Moreover, in another similar incident that happened recently in a house in BDD Chawl in Mumbai, on April 4, left two women severely injured. Of which, one was in critical condition with 70 to 80 per cent burns.
