The state government has sought more COVID-19 vaccines to finish the vaccination of those between the age of 15-18 as well to commence the administration of the precaution doses from January 10 onwards, reports stated. Apart from this, the Maharashtra government has also asked that the Centre commence inoculation for those between the age of 12-15. 

According to reports, during a meeting with Central health minister Mansukh Mandhviya, the Maharashtra government asked for an additional 50 lakh doses and 40 lakh doses of Covaxin and Covishield respectively, to fasten the vaccination drive.

State health minister, Rajesh Tope was quoted by reports elaborating on how there are nearly 85 lakh beneficiaries between the age group of 15-18 and since only Covaxin has been approved for them, they have asked for its additional doses from the Union. 

Apart from this, Maharashtra also demanded that the Centre curtail the price of the monoclonal antibodies cocktail that is nearly INR 1.2 lakh. Moreover, Tope added that the state asked for the requisite supply of the newly sanctioned anti-viral drug, molnupiravir. 

Based on accounts, Maharashtra sought the supply of the S-gene drop out testing kits that enable the early detection of the Omicron variant. The government requested the Centre to review the testing protocols at international airports since the variant isn't just present in a few countries. Moreover, it asked the Union to proclaim standard protocols of restrictions to keep in check the spread of the virus.
