Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Friday called for establishing a COVID task force in each district of the state. The task force of expert doctors in all 36 districts in the state should be set up on the lines of the one in Mumbai, he said.

The Chief Minister held a review meeting on the COVID-19 situation in Maharashtra via video conferencing with divisional commissioners, district collectors and municipal commissioners. Maharashtra Chief Secretary Ajoy Mehta was also present in the meeting.

During the virtual interaction, Thackeray said that the district administrations should focus on setting up a task force in each district with an aim to treat COVID-19 patients timely.

He further said that the tracing high-risk contacts of COVID-19 patients was critical and therefore, a task force should be formed in each district given the rise in the number of coronavirus cases.

The task force should have experienced doctors and they should keep in touch with the doctors in Mumbai, he said while adding that the COVID task force in the city has helped a lot in containing the spread of the deadly virus.

The Chief Minister said that the doubling rate in Maharashtra has increased from seven to 23 days in just two months. However, he raised concerns over the increase in mortality rate which has gone up to 4.8 per cent.

“The numbers are increasing in some districts which have been provided relaxations from the lockdown. There shouldn’t be any lapse in finding the patients and tracing high-risk contacts,” Thackeray asserted.

Meanwhile, the Chief Secretary highlighted that the cases have gone up in places where the contact tracing is being done for less than 10 people. In the meeting, Thackeray also suggested that senior doctors who can’t treat patients because of their old-age should guide their juniors.
