The Maharashtra Health department has informed that so far 1,67,81,719 vaccination doses have been administered to date.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, May 5, a total of 2,59,685 citizens were vaccinated through 1,586 vaccination centres in Maharashtra. This includes 1,53,967 citizens in the age group of 18 to 44 years.

Moreover, so far, 1,39,15,088 citizens have been given the first dose of vaccine in the state. Both the doses have been given to 28,66,631 citizens. The vaccination of these citizens has been completed and Maharashtra happens to be the first among all the states to give the highest number of doses to the citizens.

Maharashtra has taken the lead in vaccination from the very beginning. At the same time, the rate of vaccine wastage in Maharashtra is only 1 per cent due to which Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Health Minister Rajesh Tope had earlier congratulated the health workers for using the vaccine properly. According to sources, Maharashtra is followed by Rajasthan (1,35,097), Gujarat (1,32,031), West Bengal (1,14,075), Karnataka (1,1,011).

On the other hand, Mumbai’s civic body, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is planning to set up more drive-in vaccination centres across the city after its first in Dadar has drawn praise from a lot of quarters. Furthermore, Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal, who issued the order on Thursday, May 6, asked officials to set up the centres in each of the seven administrative regions of the city.
