The state government of Maharashtra has imposed new guidelines to curb the spread of coronavirus. Officials, over the last many weeks, have observed that several citizens are not following the rules properly by not wearing masks or maintaining social distance. Hence, to strengthen the same, the authorities have decided to increase the fine to INR 500, for not wearing a mask. The previously decided amount was INR 200, however, the decision was taken to make sure people follow the same.

As per the revised guidelines, citizens cannot travel in the city between 8 pm to 7 am, as the government has imposed a night curfew. This move has been implemented to curb the spread of the virus and reduce cases that have seen a significant rise in the last few days. Additionally, now a gathering of five or more people is not permitted. Besides this, public parks, cinema halls, malls, gardens etc. will remain closed post 8 pm. Dine-in services at the restaurants is also not allowed either, but the delivery option is allowed.

The announcement was made after the district collectors and Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray decided to handle the coronavirus spread in Maharashtra. To ensure people follow this diligently, the government has decided to impose a fine of INR 1,000 per person, if anyone violates the rules.

The local train services in the city, which resumed in February 2021, will continue to run as per schedule. Offices will function only at 50 per cent capacity. Restrictions have been imposed on the number of people visiting government offices, temples and other related places. An appeal has been made to only visit the places if absolutely necessary.

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray recently informed that a lockdown might be considered in the state with minimum economic impact, however, the same is yet to be decided. Discussions are being held with the COVID-19 task force which has recommended a strict lockdown to curb the spread in this second wave, however, the officials are drafting a plan to implement the same with a minimal effect on the businesses and economy.

On the other hand, the respective civic bodies and police officials have been asked to ensure the containment zones are marked and people follow the norms. Actions will be taken if the authorities find people flouting the rules.
