During the visit, the Governor announced a donation of ₹20 lakh to the Asiatic Society towards the preservation and conservation of its valuable collection of books.
The Governor called for greater efforts to attract younger generations to the institution. He said the Asiatic Society should not remain merely a repository of books and historical documents, but should evolve into a vibrant centre for readers, researchers and knowledge seekers.
Speaking about conservation, the Governor said preservation work requires more than routine office hours. It demands passion, dedication and a strong sense of purpose. He expressed satisfaction with the work being carried out by the Asiatic Society to protect its priceless collection.
Rare Tripura Manuscript Draws Governor’s Attention
The Governor viewed the Sanskrit work Rajaratnakaram, an important historical text associated with Tripura and its royal family. He noted that although the work is widely discussed in Tripura, he had never personally seen a copy there. He said he was delighted and honoured to encounter the historic work for the first time at the Asiatic Library in Mumbai.
