According to the latest reports, the Maharashtra government has sought details from the Central and state COVID-19 task force on the measures adopted to make the state mask-free promptly, said state health minister Rajesh Tope on Thursday, February 10, in Kolhapur.

Based on accounts, Tope remarked that many countries have permitted their citizens to stop wearing face masks. He was quoted by narratives elaborating on how in the recent cabinet meeting, making Maharashtra mask-free was discussed.

Tope reportedly added that many countries like the UK have asked their citizens to stop wearing masks. Therefore, they have asked the Central and state COVID-19 task forces to give them information on how they attained it.

However, he emphasized that the mask rule will continue to remain in force for some time in the state since the demography is considerable.

His statement comes in the aftermath of a declaration made by him earlier this week wherein he dismissed speculations that the rule of compulsorily wearing face masks could be lifted soon. Apart from this, he remarked that the third wave had passed in the state.

Many politicians and government officials have been making statements about the mask mandate in the state. On one hand, Aaditya Thackeray, cabinet minister stated wearing these face masks will continue to remain mandatory until the WHO tells the global citizens that the pandemic or endemic has ended.

Similarly, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar while claiming that the city will be unlocked by the end of February it will be important for the people to wear masks as well as observe social distancing.

State government officials have also reportedly stated that the Maharashtra government will be reassessing the restrictions in place considering the fall in the number of cases, with the possibility of further relaxation.
