On Tuesday, February 8, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar while interacting with reporters stated that Mumbai will be unlocked by the end of February. She added that the authorities have made up their minds, but it is important for the people to wear masks as well as observe social distancing. 

Moreover, as per Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)’s data, Mumbai reported a drop in the COVID-19 cases to 356 on Monday from 536 a day earlier, on Sunday, February 6. This is the lowest since December 21, 2021.

Earlier, state public health minister, Rajesh Tope had remarked, that the coronavirus pandemic will be over by the second week of March. Owing to this, restrictions will be eased every week.

The third wave of coronavirus which was driven by the highly transmissible Omicron variant had resulted in a surge of cases reported in both the state and city. Based on accounts, an aggregate of 3,334 patients infected with Omicron has been detected in Maharashtra.

The state health department said that Maharashtra on Monday, recorded 6,436 new coronavirus cases, a drastic fall of 3,230 from a day ago, and 24 fresh fatalities linked to the infection, similarly 18,423 more patients recovered from the disease. Many claimed the Omicron wave to be less fatal in contrast to the earlier.
