Amid the many upcoming religious festivals, the Maharashtra Police have undertaken steps to ensure that there aren’t any law-and-order issues. According to reports, every police station in Maharashtra has been asked to take out route marches in their concerned jurisdiction.

Based on accounts, on Wednesday, April 13, Suhas Warke, special inspector general for law and order of Maharashtra, issued a press statement that the police department will take strict action against those inciting communal disharmony.

It has been reported that to see to it that any untoward mishap does not transpire as people are celebrating the festivals, senior state police officers have told the force that includes more than two lakh personnel as well as 38,000 home guards and 100 companies of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) to be on alert and undertake preventive steps to ensure communal harmony.

In light of this, police stations have been told to curate a list of anti-social elements and miscreants within their jurisdiction who could create law and order issues during these events. They have also been told to commence requisite action against them to see to it that they do not partake in any nuisance or violent actives, cited narratives.

Other than this, the police have been told to conduct meetings with Mohalla committees, and religious, social, cultural and peace groups to urge them to ensure peace during these events. They will also be told to not believe in rumours shared on social media.

The groups have also been given the responsibility to be the citizen's representatives and promptly apprise the police of rumours on social media. Police’s social media labs will be assessing the platforms and each district’s special branch and city police have been told to collect intel input.
