Although the number of accidental deaths in the state has decreased by one percent, the number of accidents has increased by over 700. Also in Mumbai, which was once a city of accidents, there has been a large reduction in the number of accidental deaths, as compared to 2022 and 2023, the number of accidental deaths in Mumbai city and suburbs has decreased by 23.70 percent.


Reckless driving without following traffic rules, potholes on roads, lack of guideposts, encroachments on footpaths are the causes of road accidents. The transport department has started implementing measures to reduce road accidents in the state. Road safety campaign is being implemented. As a result, road accident deaths in Mumbai city and suburbs decreased by 23 percent in 2023 compared to 2022. Mumbai recorded 1,895 road accidents in 2022. 371 people died in it. So, in the year 2023, 1,473 road accidents were recorded in which 283 people died. Due to this, the number of accidents decreased by 422 and the number of deaths by 88.

According to the official data released by the Transport Department on Monday, there were 33,383 road accidents in the state in 2022. 15,224 people died in it. So, in the year 2023, there were 34,114 road accidents, 15,009 people died in it. Therefore, it can be seen that 731 accidents have increased compared to two years ago. But the number of deaths has decreased by 215. 840 accidents occurred in Chandrapur in 2022 and 434 people died. In 2023, 791 accidents occurred and 349 people died.


In Navi Mumbai in 2022 there were 727 accidents in which 293 people died. So, the number of accidents increased to 755 in the year 2023. But with 241 deaths, the number of deaths decreased by 17.70 percent.
