The state of Maharashtra is set to cross the two million mark on Wednesday, July 29, with regards to the number of tests that were carried out for the coronavirus.

Maharashtra has carried out over 15,607 tests per million which is higher than the national average of 12,562, though it is much lesser than Mumbai’s 38,004 tests per million. Moreover, with the Rapid Antigen Testing, the state’s testing scene has exponentially changed over the last month. Of the nearly two million tests, over a million were carried out in the last 28 days of the month of July.

Furthermore, on the brighter side, the city of Mumbai recorded just 700 fresh cases of the coronavirus on Tuesday, July 28- which is the lowest single-day tally in over three months. This is a steep fall from Monday that had witnessed 1,033 persons testing positive for the novel coronavirus.

Revealing this information, Maharashtra Environment, Tourism and Protocol Minister Aaditya Thackeray added that the highest ever testing with regards to the coronavirus was also conducted on Tuesday with 8,776 samples being tested for the contagious disease in the city. Describing this as a major relief, Thackeray cautioned against letting the guard down.

According to the Shiv Sena MLA, the testing has been further ramped up in Mumbai as a result of the initiative by BMC. He also mentioned that Maharashtra's capital was the only city to allow citizens to "test at will". In Mumbai, people can get themselves tested without a prescription from a medical practitioner which has made it easier to detect the patients who have been asymptomatic so far. Moreover, Thackeray noted that this successful model is also being implemented in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, leading to testing facilities being enhanced.
