After the Malad wall collapse on Monday, July 1, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday issued a show-cause notice to the contractor Omkar Engineers. Along with this, the civic body might file an FIR against the contractor.

On July 1, amid heavy rainfall, a compound wall collapsed in Pimpripada in Malad East which killed 26 people and left 75 injured. The wall was constructed in November 2017 and it could not even survive the second monsoon season.

The locals alleged that the wall collapsed because of the flaw in the construction as not a single hole was made in the wall for the rainwater to pass and the heavy rainfall generated water pressure which led to its collapse.

After the incident, the BMC ordered an investigation regarding the same. Along with this, the civic body will also carry out a high-level inquiry into the matter. The initial investigation report suggests that the wall collapsed due to the water pressure flowing towards the wall from the reservoir.
