Malad Wall Collapse: BMC Appoints a Special Investigation Team

On Tuesday, July 2, the wall collapse at Pimpripada in Malad claimed the lives of 26 people leaving more than 120 people injured. More than 100 huts were washed away which have left many people without a roof over their head. The civic authorities have claimed that the construction of these huts was illegal whereas the residents are stating that they were promised rehabilitation and renovation by several political parties before elections and they have been waiting for it for more than 18 months now.

They have further said that they had complained about the waterlogging issue in their areas but it had fallen on deaf ears and made callous indifference to the authorities. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) stated that they're investigating the matter and have sent a notice to the contractor. Strict actions will be taken against the contractor if he's found guilty.  

BMC has further appointed a special team for a thorough investigation which includes alumni of Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B), Veermata Jijamata Technological Institute (VJTI) and senior officials of the hydraulic engineering department. They have been asked to submit a report within 15 days.
