Mumbai experienced very heavy rainfall on July 2, 2019, and the entire city faced concerns for the entire day. But the wall collapse in Malad shook the entire city, and since the day, the number of the deceased has been increasing.

According to recent reports, the death toll has now risen to 31 with a 50-year old woman Basanti Kishor Sharma succumbing to her injuries on Saturday, July 20 at Cooper Hospital. Over 90 people have been injured in the incident and the state government had announced a compensation of ₹5 lakhs to the kin of the deceased.

BMC has further appointed a special team for a thorough investigation which includes alumni of Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B), Veermata Jijamata Technological Institute (VJTI) and senior officials of the hydraulic engineering department. They have been asked to submit a report within 15 days. 

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis had visited the hospital and stated that an enquiry has been set up in this matter.
