Resident doctors throughout, many government and corporation hospitals in Maharashtra undertook the decision to curtail the intensity of their prevalent strike, in light of which they decided to commence OPD services from Tuesday, December 7, stated reports.

The nationwide agitations against the Supreme Court stay on the PG medical admissions as well as other issues will now be underway without hampering the work of the hospital, mentioned a statement by the Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD).

The MARD had withdrawn from OPD activities on Monday, December 6. In light of this, a meeting was undertaken on Monday evening with representatives of MARD, BMC officials as well as Maharashtra cabinet minister, Aaditya Thackeray. Post the conclusion of the meeting the resident doctors decided to commence OPD services.

Based on reports, Thackeray has promised the doctors that the state will commence the pre-admission registration procedure for the PG admissions promptly. He went on to provide assurance by approaching the competent authorities in the union government to demand the quashing of the stay on admissions.

In Mumbai, resident doctors also protested since recently, notices were made to vacate the accommodation offered by the MHADA/MCGM. For this, Thackeray offered his assistance as well.

A prominent issue of the doctors is the overburden of work they face owing to the fact that the work is being done by a mere two batches of resident doctors instead of the usual three.
