Even as the Maharashtra government has done away with the COVID-19 protocols, which also includes masks rule as well, the civil aviation ministry has made it mandatory to wear face masks in airports and flights.

This development comes days after the Maharashtra government announced relaxations of COVID-19 restrictions from April 2.

Therefore, those planning to travel to and from Mumbai airport, remember to carry masks as they are mandatory in airports in the cities and on all flights.

In March last year, 2021, the DGCA had said a person refusing to wear a mask on flight would be treated as an unruly passenger and deboarded after suo motu action taken by the Delhi high court. The circular continues to be in force.

Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) Arun Kumar said that even now, it is asked to wear a mask during air travel, so passengers flying from Mumbai or Delhi should remember to carry a mask as it is available in airports and all flights in these cities is imperative.

Later, on the similar lines to the state government, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) also released a statement clarifying that wearing masks will be voluntary in the city and no citizens would be fined for the same.

Meanwhile, in Europe, countries like the United Kingdom, Iceland, and Ireland are increasingly ditching masks altogether, and several airlines have followed suit in those countries.
