MMRCL completes 87 per cent of excavation work for Metro 3

The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (MMRCL) has finished the excavation work for 13 lines of Metro 3 line. Overall, 87 per cent of the excavation work has been completed for this line.

MMRC had started work on Metro 3 line (Colaba to Seepz) in 2015. Nearly 4 years after starting the project, the corporation has finished overall 87 per cent work at the project site. The Metro 3 line has a total of 27 stations, out of which 26 are underground.

The excavation work has been completed for 13 stations i.e. Cuffe Parade, Vidhan Bhavan, Churchgate, Hutatma Chowk, CSMT, Science Museum, Siddhivinayak, MIDC, Marol Naka, Sahar Road, CSMIA Domestic, CSMIA International Airport, and Seepz.

Whereas MMRC still has to complete the work at stations including Kalbadevi, Girgaon, Grant Road, Mumbai Central, Mahalaxmi, Aacharya Atre Chowk, Worli, Dadar, Shitaladevi, Dharavi, BKC, Vidyanagari and Santacruz.

Now, further activities like the construction of station boxes that is already underway will be carried out. The excavation for the remaining 13 stations - taking place on a war footing - will be completed in the next three to four months. Overall, 87 per cent of the excavation has been completed,” said S.K. Gupta, project director, MMRCL.

In the meantime, only 14 per cent of excavation work has been finished at Girgaon station. whereas the work at Santacruz station will soon be finished as 97 per cent excavation work at the site has been completed.
